Trestle Projects is pleased to announce The Wanderers, a three-person exhibition with Heather Garland, Ryan Nord Kitchen and Ryann Slauson that examines personal mythologies centered upon memory and perception.
The artists in The Wanderers are interested in the documentation, fabrication and disparity of recollection. Each artist has created his or her own time capsule of chosen objects and memories. Heather Garland’s installation is a patchwork of shared emotions: childhood photos, found objects, discarded bits from the streets of Greenpoint, postcards from past exhibitions, used fabrics. Garland’s interventions install an aura of things lost and forgotten. Ryan Nord Kitchen’s diaristic paintings honor ephemera. Kitchen celebrates the disintegration of kept items. Ryann Slauson’s No Name Pub draws from her upbringing in rural Florida to create personal – yet universal – commonplace objects. Slauson’s work questions how memory is transferred from one thing to another through an emphasis on materiality, pop culture and a tongue in cheek sensibility. By animating the past through material form, The Wanderers addresses our immediate, present hand in shaping our own mythologies and narratives.
